1. Goal setting and its evolutionary link – why humans are different from other primates? – Why women are better planners than men in general?

2. Goal setting comes natural to us – part of our evolutionary development – so no one can say that setting goals is something foreign to them – all we need to do is set a little structure to the process and follow it with determination

3. Starting to set goals – before we can start to set goals, we need to determine what motivates us – what drives us – what are those outcomes that we long for – as we know there are only two drivers for human actions – to gain pleasure and avoid pain – so identify what outcomes would help you maximize these drivers

4. To achieve fulfillment of life, it is recommended that one should set professional goals, personal goals, social goals etc

5. Using the SMART system to set goals – using the famous weight-loss example

6. How to use the infinite action loop in the SMART – Each Action Item needs to be qualified by the entire SMART criteria

7. The famous Zig Zigler goal achievement process – set goals – identify a way to measure success – identify people, organizations and other resources you need to work with – identify all the obstacles that you need to overcome – put a date on it – and write all the benefits that you will get out of it

8. The new addition to SMART - SMARTER

9. Examples – GE – Either we will be no 1 or no 2 in the industry or get out of the market – 3M – 40% of our revenue this year should come from the products that we have launched in the last three years
